Description
In its idyllic setting on the edge of Exmoor National Park, Deer’s Leap offers a tranquil holiday base. Guests can fish in the carp lake, watch the resident buzzards, kingfishers, kestrels and owls, or wander through the lovingly tended garden. From the grounds there are beautiful views of mid Devon and Dartmoor, which can be seen in the distance some 40 miles away. For the more active there is a hard tennis court. Dating back to the 15th century, the cottages are all tastefully decorated, well equipped and offer everything needed for a family holiday, a romantic getaway, a celebration, or some well-earned time out. Exmoor is one of the country’s finest National Parks. Its terrain is greatly varied, with heather clad hillsides, steep wooded valleys and meandering rivers, marshland, pastures and a spectacular coastline. The moor is home to a wealth of wildlife, including the ancient breed of Exmoor pony, red deer, foxes and badgers. Among the flora to be found are heath spotted orchid, sundew and wall pennywort. There is an abundance of picturesque walks for both casual and serious walkers. Other local activities include horse riding, fishing and golf. Regular tours of the moor leave from Dulverton, and the ancient Tarr Steps, Anstey Common, Landcare Bridge and Dunkery Beacon are all within easy reach. Several charming villages are also nearby, including Dulverton, Winsford, Withypool and Exford. The Heritage Coast has some of the highest sea cliffs in England, with local beaches only 13 miles away. is a picture-perfect fishing village. Ilfracombe is a more traditional seaside resort, but is not overly-commercialised, while the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth have an atmosphere all their own. Don’t miss the wonderful water-powered funicular railway here.

Justly famous as one of England’s finest destinations, South Devon has everything
